Hero Siege Tier 4 Dungeon - Key Rarity Explained

Tier 4 keys are the most common in Hero Siege, not the rarest. How dungeon key tiers work, what dungeons contain, and why difficulty matters more than tier.

The single thing to get right about tier 4 dungeons: the numbering runs backwards from what you would expect.

Is Tier 4 the best dungeon key?

No — it is the most common. The rarity scale is:

  • Tier 1 — rarest
  • Tier 2
  • Tier 3
  • Tier 4 — most common
  • Cloud key — its own separate category, outside the numbered tiers

If you are reading a drop table and assuming higher numbers mean better, you have it inverted. A Tier 4 key is the one you will accumulate; a Tier 1 key is the one worth saving.

What is inside a key dungeon?

Consistency, which is the point of them. Key dungeons spawn with very high chance in specific zones, and each one always contains the same champion variants of its enemies and always looks the same.

They are free to enter — the key is the cost, not an entry fee.

Dungeon population data gives a sense of scale. One zone’s pack composition records 167 Common packs, 250 Ambush, 21 Ancient, 1 Mini Boss and 1 Dungeon Chest; another records 167 Common, 83 Ancient, 8 Normal Chests, 1 Shrine, 1 Mini Boss and 1 Dungeon Chest.

Two takeaways: Ambush packs can outnumber everything else, and there is generally one Dungeon Chest — the run’s actual payout.

Does tier or difficulty matter more?

Difficulty, by a wide margin. The chest reward scales like this:

DifficultyDungeon chest
Normal and Nightmare400–1,000 rubies, plus a few items
HellAlways 8,000–12,000 rubies, plus other rewards

That is roughly ten times the payout, and it is guaranteed rather than a range starting near zero.

So the practical rule is not “save Tier 1 keys” but “do not spend any key below Hell.” A common Tier 4 key used on Hell is worth far more than a rare Tier 1 key used on Normal.

A caveat on the pack data

The dungeon population figures above are labelled State: S9 by their source — Season 9 data, one season behind current. Pack counts are exactly the kind of number a season rebalances, so treat them as indicative of shape rather than exact current values.

Start with the key-dungeon system guide, then compare the special Ruby Garden route. The Hell difficulty requirements explain the other axis of reward scaling, and the price-check guide shows why a high-tier key’s trading value is not the same as its dungeon tier.

Next step

Bank keys of every tier until Hell is unlocked — difficulty multiplies the reward roughly tenfold, while tier only affects how often you find the key.
