Hero Siege Free Classes - Which Ones Cost Money in Season 10
Six classes became free in Season 9 when the developer moved away from pay-to-play content. Which classes are free, which are still DLC, and what buyers got.
Most of the confusion about which Hero Siege classes cost money comes from the answer having changed. Classes that guides describe as DLC were made free, and older pages were never updated.
Which Hero Siege classes are free?
Six classes were converted from paid DLC to free in Season 9, announced by the developer on Steam:
Amazon, Paladin, Samurai, Shaman, Demonspawn and Demon Slayer.
The reasoning was stated directly:
We have been looking more into the monetization of the game and have decided to slowly move away from the excessive pay to play content.
What happened to players who already bought them?
They were not refunded, and the DLC was not removed. Instead, previous purchasers received special skins that replace the old class DLC, because, as the announcement puts it, the studio cannot simply remove content people have paid for.
So if you own one of those six from before Season 9, you keep a cosmetic that newer players do not have.
Which classes still cost money?
Classes still sold separately on Steam include Illusionist, Exo, Butcher, Stormweaver, Bard and Prophet. The Hero Siege Complete bundle packages the base game with the remaining class DLC at a discount over buying them individually.
Be careful reading older guides here. A class described as DLC in a Season 8 guide may be free now, and the six above are exactly the ones most likely to be mislabelled.
Will more classes become free?
The developer said it plans to, with an explicit caution about pace:
We are also planning to slowly open more classes, but since our monetization model is all over the place, doing too much at once is way too risky from a financial point of view.
The stated direction is toward “visual, optional and fairly priced” cosmetics and pay-for-convenience rather than locking playable content — with new character classes named as the exception that will still be sold.
That last part matters if you are deciding whether to wait: new classes are expected to launch as paid, so waiting for a brand-new class to become free is a long bet, while an older paid class is a more reasonable one.
The complete class roster separates base-game choices from the remaining DLC. Among the classes discussed here, the Amazon skill guide and Demonspawn build guide cover two free options, while Stormweaver and Bard remain documented paid choices.
Next step
Check the roster to see which of the free six suits the damage type you want to play, since all six are available without spending anything beyond the base game.
