Gurag is the first of the six bosses that gate Hell difficulty, which makes him the one most players meet early and return to often.

Where do you find Gurag?

1-5 King’s Garden → Northern Post Dungeon → Room 4: King’s Throne.

Being in Act 1 makes him the most accessible of the Hell-gating bosses, and the easiest to farm repeatedly for his drops.

What are Gurag’s abilities?

Two, and both are avoidable once you know the pattern:

AbilityWhat it does
Earthen FurySpawns lightning orbs that travel along a track around Gurag, damaging on contact
AvalancheSpawns rocks that follow you for a few seconds, damaging on contact before exploding

The two want opposite responses. Earthen Fury’s orbs move on a fixed track around the boss, so the safe space is predictable — learn the track rather than reacting to each orb. Avalanche actively chases, so it wants movement and distance, and the rocks explode at the end regardless.

Fighting both at once is the real difficulty: staying still to read the orb track is exactly what the chasing rocks punish.

What does Gurag drop?

  • Parts of the Gurag’s Fury set.
  • Book of Soulforge page 11, on a chance roll.

The page is a chance drop, so expect repeat kills. That is convenient rather than annoying — you likely want multiple runs for the set pieces anyway.

Why kill Gurag more than once?

Three separate reasons stack on the same fight:

  1. Hell unlock. Gurag is one of six bosses — with Reaper, Anubis, Damien, King Karp and Satan — required to open Hell difficulty.
  2. Book of Soulforge page 11, part of the Soulforged Ring questline.
  3. Gurag’s Fury set pieces.

Because all three come from the same boss, there is no reason to treat them as separate projects. Run Gurag until the page drops and you will have made progress on all three.

Gurag is part of both the six-boss Hell unlock route and the Book of Soulforge page hunt. That second chain ends with the Soulforged Ring, and the quest overview shows how to run both goals during the same progression pass.

Next step

Clear Gurag on whichever of Normal or Nightmare you can handle — the Hell unlock accepts either, so there is no benefit to fighting him on the harder one first.
