Hero Siege explains very little of itself, which is why guidance for it exists at all. This page is a map of what to read and in what order.

What should a new player read first?

In this order, because each depends on the one before:

  1. Pick a damage type, then a class. Melee, bows, guns and spell scale from different stats, so this decides which drops are upgrades for the rest of your season.
  2. Understand the difficulty ladder. Nightmare and Hell have specific boss requirements, and Hell is where gear progression actually starts.
  3. Set up loot filtering early. The game drops far more than you can read.
  4. Then look at builds. Not before — a build guide assumes you have already chosen a class and can reach the content it describes.

The common mistake is starting at step 4, picking a top-tier build, and finding it needs items that only drop past a difficulty you have not unlocked.

Which guidance goes stale fastest?

Ranked by how quickly it stops being true:

TypeShelf lifeWhy
Build guides, tier listsOne seasonLadders reset and skills rebalance
Drop rates and farming spotsOne patchBuffed directly in patch notes
Difficulty requirementsLongBoss gates change rarely
Class damage typesLongStructural to the class

This is why guides carry season labels, and why a Season 8 build guide can be actively misleading rather than merely dated.

How do you tell if a guide is current?

Check three things:

  • Does it name a season? A guide with no version label is the hardest to trust.
  • Does its season match the current one? Season 10 is current. Community wikis carry placeholder pages for later seasons, so a Season 12 link is not evidence that Season 12 exists.
  • Does it mention systems that have been replaced? A guide describing the Hero Level Tree predates Season 9, when the Incarnation Tree replaced it.

Where does Hero Siege guidance live?

Mostly outside any single wiki. Build guidance circulates through community build planners with shareable links, YouTube creators publishing per-season guides, and Discord. There is no official build database, which is why the same build reaches you as a link rather than a page.

The practical consequence: check the date on everything. A permanent link records what worked when it was made.

The practical reading path is the class roster and damage-type guide, then the difficulty requirements for unlocking Hell, then the item-system overview. Once those foundations are clear, compare the reviewed build catalog and verify fast-moving claims against the recent patch summary.

Next step

If you are new, start with class and damage type rather than a tier list — the ranking is only useful once you know which classes can run the archetypes on it.
